Boiler Upgrade Grants Given Additional Funding

The UK Government has announced an additional £1.5 billion has been allocated to supporting the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) until 2028. This funding is welcome to the renewable energy sector, as it provides capital upfront to support the installation of environmentally friendly heating systems across England and Wales.

Over 17 million homes in the UK are currently heated by gas boilers which are inefficient and responsible for the production of thousands of tonnes of carbon every year, accounting for 14% of the UK’s annual emissions. To curb the damage being inflicted by these millions of gas boilers, the government launched a Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Originally, £450 million was budgeted for the grant, however, this has now been increased by £1.5 billion between now and 2028. This will have a significant impact on the affordability of low-carbon heating systems and make a marked improvement to the UK’s efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Each household can now apply for a grant of £7500 towards the installation of an Air Source Heat Pump. Your eligibility for a BUS grant is not means-tested, so your income will not impact whether you qualify. To receive the grant, your property must hold a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) from within the last 10 years, be privately owned, have no outstanding recommendations for insulation or wall cavities, and be replacing a fossil fuel boiler such as a gas boiler. We will apply for the grant on your behalf so you can be confident that you are eligible before your project begins.
